Here, our three-fold test of proportional punishment, love, and holiness appears to support purgatory. Because the time spent in purgatory is of limited duration, it does not contradict the fairness of God. Secondly, the test of love is satisfied, since the punishment is remedial. Finally, the holiness of God and divine justice are maintained, because sin is taken seriously and must be atoned. Yet there are other important considerations.
